About Me

I am a Registered Nurse, Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, and Transforming Touch® Therapist who works with clients who want to move from their current state to one where they have a greater sense of safety and wellbeing.

I grew up in Colombia, South America and speak Spanish fluently. I have worked for over 20 years as a nurse in Canada in both major hospitals and remote communities in BC, Manitoba, Nunavut and Ontario. In recent years I have been working in the area of mental health.

After a successful career serving people in Indigenous and Inuit communities as a Community Health Nurse, I now provide support to people in their journey to heal from experiences of trauma.

I believe that we are often blamed for our current circumstances as if we had voluntary control over them, when in truth we are doing our best. We ourselves are often frustrated looking at our own actions, doing things we then berate ourselves for. These actions seem to originate deep within us in a place where we have little control. This sense often indicates that we have experienced trauma early in our lives, Transforming Touch is uniquely able to help bring about change for those who find themselves in this situation. Healing comes from within each of us, this happens more easily and best when we are supported by a skilled guide rather than when we try to do it alone.

 Training

In 2010, I came across Peter A. Levine’s book Healing Trauma: A Pioneering Program to Restoring the Wisdom of Your Body. It was like a breath of fresh air, finally a pathway to healing that did not require ‘harder work’ or ‘more discipline’. Instead the advice was to notice and attend to what the body was trying to say and do. Since then I have experienced the power of this work and engaged in training to provide help to others.

Training:

  • Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner certification (SEP®), developed by Peter A Levine Ph.D, ERGOS Institute for Somatic Education

  • Touch Skills Training for Trauma Therapists, developed and taught by Kathy Kain MA

  • Somatic Resilience and Regulation: Early Trauma, developed and taught by Kathy Kain MA and Stephen Terrell Psy.D

  • Eye of The Needle: Working With Anesthesia & Near-Death Experiences taught by Peter A. Levine Ph.D

  • Transforming the Experience-Based Brain, (Transforming Touch®), developed and taught by Stephen Terrell Psy.D Austin Attachment and Counseling Centre

“Trauma is perhaps the most avoided, ignored, belittled, denied, misunderstood, and untreated cause of human suffering.”
